About Karem
I have developed teaching experience through tutorials and classroom teaching since 2010, primarily at Stanford University. My students report learning a lot, feeling comfortable, and gaining greater confidence in their abilities. I have a BA in English from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX. I have an MA in Sociology-Anthropology from The American University in Cairo and a second MA and a Phd in Anthropology from Stanford University.

I use affirmative, inclusive methods, aiming to show students how they can use their own life experience as a basis for learning and research. In my humble opinion, critical thinking comprises a set of tools that can be learned well before entering college. To that end, I encourage students to view reading as an active craft in which they learn to pose questions to a text. For students interested in improving their writing, I teach tools for organization, clarity, evidence, rhetorical persuasion and analytic precision.
