About George
Currently, I am a 2nd year BBSRC-funded PhD student with the London Interdisciplinary Biosciences consortium (LIDo). Working on a collaborative project between Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL), Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBGK), and the Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Tanzania. I am investigating a plant from Tanzania that is used as a traditional medicine, hoping to find new molecules that could support human health. This project spans multiple disciplines: biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, microbiology, natural product and analytical chemistry, bioinformatics, and pharmacology.
Helping students reach their full potential and flourish within academia is very important to me. Alongside my studies, I sit on the Student Advisory Board for the Martingale Foundation - an organisation that supports disadvantaged students from low-income backgrounds become STEM leaders. I have mentored multiple students providing help with A-levels, as well as undergraduate/postgraduate studies and applications. I also mentor PhDs, currently helping a 1st year student on the LIDo programme.
- My background:
I began my academic journey studying a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry with a Professional Training Year at Cardiff University (awarded first class). Here, I learnt more generally about biological systems at a chemical and molecular level. Through my final year project, I was exposed to, and fascinated by, the power of computational tools for natural product discovery. To develop these skills, I applied to do a MSc in Bioinformatics from University of Bristol (awarded distinction). Here I learnt coding and programming (languages: Python, R and C++), HPC/cloud computing, statistical modelling (e.g. GLMMs), and more. Over the course of my career I have developed multiple academic skills as a researcher. This includes project and fieldwork planning, writing research and grant proposals, conducting literature reviews, writing dissertations, data analysis and statistics.
- Other notable academic achievements:
Awarded Yakult Prize for 'best final year project in the field of microbiology' recognised across UK and Ireland, plus my contribution were acknowledged in a scientific publication. Awarded 4-year PhD studentship on the UK's largest BBSRC-funded doctoral programme. Awarded two research grants in 1st year for PhD: travel grant (Atchinson-Tait trust) and botanical research grant (Emily Holmes Memorial Scholarship). Authorship on two academic papers nearly submitted for publication.
Please reach out if you feel I could be of use to you, I love hearing about student's journeys and enjoy helping others become great researchers!

My sessions aim to help students develop into skilled, confident and independent scientific researchers.
Typically, this includes guidance with a bioscience-related thesis/dissertation, research and grant proposals, and applications to competitive BSc/MSc/PhD programmes. More detailed aspects include, but are not limited to, academic reading/writing/referencing, conducting literature reviews, utilising AI-tools for academic study, data analysis (e.g. coding, programming, statistics), presentations and posters, cover letters, letters of motivation, personal statements and CVs.
Throughout my academic career, I have privately mentored several students before, during and after university. Students have been successfully admitted into world-leading Universities, e.g. King's College London, achieved high grades in their UG dissertations, and accepted onto STEM postgraduate courses (e.g. MSc nutrition and MSc Neuroscience).
Initially, a FREE online consultation is useful to help develop your ideas, discuss possible approaches, and create a structured plan. Following this, I can provide a service of proofreading to provide valuable feedback, comments and edits. This is charged by the hour of my time. It may be beneficial to have a follow up session(s) depending on work requirements (e.g. length and stage etc).

I have worked with George while preparing for my A levels and undergraduate degree. George was super great and helped me to achieve my goals. He is very knowledgeable and has provided me with a lot of support and advice, on top of the tutoring.
George has a patient and engaging teaching style, which makes even the topics feel manageable. They tailor the sessions to suit individual learning styles- he really helped me to understand complex maths questions for my chemistry a level. He has the ability to break down complex concepts into simple, digestible steps while keeping the sessions enjoyable and motivating.
I wholeheartedly recommend George, because of their dedication and ability to inspire confidence. Their deep understanding of science
is matched by their commitment to their students’ success. Thanks to their guidance, I was able to pass my biology and chemistry A level and produced a distinction in my undergraduate thesis. They are professional, approachable, and genuinely invested in helping their students succeed.I have worked alongside George and found him to be incredibly conscientious, supportive and great fun to work with. Having had his assistance predominantly in the field of python coding and computational data analysis I can recommend George for being an open-minded, rigorous first-principles learner and teacher.
George is a wonderful tutor and a great listener. He helped me write and structure my dissertation, making it a lot more manageable for me. I don’t think I would have done so well without him.
George is so patient and explains topics and information so well, taking extra time to go back through things if necessary. He really helped me to structure my assignments properly and to make sure they read fluently. George’s knowledge of biology is very extensive and he is highly intelligent, making him the perfect tutor and mentor.
