About Elena

I come from a long line of teachers who have all had an innate love of learning and ability to share this with children of all ages. I began working with children from infants to preschoolers in high school and worked for the same childcare agency until I graduated from Curry College. My initial degree was in the foundations of education. After a short period teaching adults computer application courses, I returned to school and obtained a Post Baccalaureate in Elementary Education from Bridgewater State College. This led me to my favorite grades to teach first and third grade both in parochial and public schools. These ages are always so inquisitive and eager to learn. Creating a strong learning environment that encompassed multiple learning styles was the happiest time of my life. I also completed a master’s degree in Special Education from Curry College while teaching during the day. Being able to specialize learning opportunities for ever varying learning styles to reach every child was extremely rewarding. In 2010, I transitioned from a SPED teacher to an advocate helping families work with SPED teams to create and adhere to an effective Individual Education Plan. I also worked directly with the students to evaluate current knowledge and learning styles. This position allowed me to help each child with innovative teaching strategies that I would not otherwise have researched with the caseload I had as a teacher. I am looking to slow down a bit now as it is time for a more meaningful and full family life. Tutoring is the perfect way to continue helping students learn and experience the fun of pursuing knowledge. I look forward to sharing my abilities and experience with students looking to improve their knowledge and perhaps identify their individual learning style.

About the lesson

I have a master's in special education and commenserate experience teaching both general education and special needs educations. My lessons draw on my knowledge and methods of teaching students' with varying learning styles. Perhaps a student is better able to express comprehension of a book through verbal methods such as acting or creative as in a series of drawings. I do also work with students to complete activities similar to those assigned by teacher's. It is important to know the student understands before learning to present knowledge in a uniform fashion.
