About Ivy

Hi, I’m Ivy! I’m a native Chinese speaker from China, now living and working as a registered nurse in Australia. I speak Mandarin, Cantonese and English, and I’d love to help you feel more comfortable using Mandarin in everyday life.

Having experienced living and working in a second language myself, I understand that speaking can feel intimidating, even when you know the words. I aim to create a relaxed, supportive space where you can practice, ask questions, and make mistakes without feeling embarrassed.

My conversation sessions are designed for adults who already know some Mandarin or Cantonese, and would like more practice speaking. We can explore topics such as food, travel, hobbies, pets, and daily life, with useful vocabulary, pronunciation support, and gentle corrections along the way.

Outside work, I enjoy traveling, photography, and spending time with my two dogs, Theo and Poppy. I’d love to hear about your interests and bring them into our conversations too!

About the lesson

Build your confidence in Mandarin and Cantonese through relaxed, practical conversation!

My lessons are designed for adults who already know some basic Mandarin or Cantonese, and want to become more comfortable speaking in everyday situations. Each session is tailored to your level, interests, and goals—whether you’re preparing for a trip to China, connecting with Chinese-speaking friends, or simply enjoying learning the language.

During our lessons, we can:
• Practise everyday conversations about food, travel, work, and hobbies.
• Role-play situations such as ordering meals, shopping, and asking for directions.
• Work on pronunciation, tones, and more natural expressions.
• Review useful vocabulary and key phrases to practise between sessions.

You’ll have plenty of time to speak, with gentle corrections and explanations in English when helpful. There’s no pressure to speak perfectly—the aim is to help you express yourself more confidently, one conversation at a time.

Lessons are online, one-to-one, and 45 minutes long, with appointment times arranged around our availability.
