About Nelson

I began my career as an English teacher in 2013, while still a university student in Colombia. During those early years, I worked in language academies and institutes, developing solid experience teaching English as a foreign language to students of different ages and levels. In 2018, I moved to Australia, where I expanded my teaching experience by teaching Spanish as a foreign language and continued offering English tutoring, especially for students preparing for international certifications such as IELTS, PTE, and TOEFL. That same year, I decided to complement my practical experience with specialized training, completing a Diploma in Interpreting and an Advanced Diploma in Translation in Australia. These studies strengthened my understanding of language, intercultural communication, and the processes of second language acquisition. Beyond teaching, I am passionate about tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs), narrative construction, and storytelling. I also enjoy video games and fantasy literature. I believe that the collaborative narratives that emerge in role-playing games are an extraordinary tool for language learning, as they promote spontaneous communication, creativity, and the use of language in meaningful contexts. For this reason, when student interests allow, I incorporate elements of storytelling, improvisation, and problem-solving into my classes to create more dynamic, memorable learning experiences focused on real-world language use.

About the lesson

My methodology focuses on developing real-world communication skills. The goal is not just to learn grammar rules, but to acquire the necessary tools to communicate confidently in everyday, academic, and professional situations. Classes combine guided conversation, listening comprehension, pronunciation (phonetic coaching), grammatical structures, and frequently used vocabulary. I use a communication block approach, which allows students to learn complete and natural expressions, fostering greater fluency and more spontaneous language production. Each session is tailored to the student's level, pace, and goals, utilizing interactive materials and digital resources that facilitate learning both inside and outside the classroom. Classes are held online via Google Meet, Zoom, or Discord, supported by tools such as Google Drive Workspace, where I share materials, exercises, multimedia resources, and progress tracking. My classes are designed for: * Individuals who want to improve their conversational skills and gain confidence speaking English. * Students preparing for official English certifications based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). * Professionals who need to develop their communication skills for the workplace. * Anyone interested in learning English as a foreign language, from beginner to advanced levels. My goal is to create a dynamic, friendly, and practical learning environment where making mistakes is part of the process and each class represents a step towards natural and effective communication in English.
