About Ana

As far as my teaching approach is concerned, I believe in a student-centered approach where students can use the language to learn about the language and where students are not afraid of making mistakes because learning is all making mistakes and learning through trial and error. In my classes, students are always encouraged to use the language to be able to communicate their thoughts and ideas. In my classes, students are exposed to the content as well as real-life issues that help foster their critical thinking skills. I strongly believe that language classes should not only focus on vocabulary and grammar but also offering students with plenty of opportunities to talk about bigger issues that can be found outside the classroom.

Interactions among learners are extremely important in my classes; they motivate their participation and engagement. Think-pair-share activities as well as small group discussions are a central part of my lessons. In order to implement these types of exercises effectively, I make sure I get to know my students well enough and build trusting relationships with them and among them. These interactive tasks help improve the different skills they need to acquire as well as develop communicative strategies.

Another important aspect of my teaching is the incorporation of culture in my classes. Through the teaching of culture, students view the world differently and their minds open; they see the possibilities the world has to offer and the enormous opportunities that speaking a foreign language can bring. Students can also discover the similarities and differences between the target culture and their own which brings tremendous value to their lives.

Lastly, I have experienced firsthand the benefits of using authentic material and the transition from only using a textbook to taking advantage of all the resources technology has to offer. I constantly incorporate technology into my lessons which makes differentiation so much easier and allows me to create meaningful tasks for all my students, regardless of their level.
