About Stanley

Over the last 15 years, learning Spanish has given me countless opportunities from befriending local Spaniards through giving them English lessons, to living with a host family in Valladolid, backpacking in South America, studying at university and even going back to Chile for my year abroad. Through the years I met people from Spain and Latin America, broadening my knowledge of the various dialects and accents. While studying in Spain and Chile, I gave Spanish lessons to a Croatian exchange student who spoke perfectly good English but wanted to improve her Spanish grammar, and a Chilean student I met at the university.

About the lesson

I aspire to take on students and adults who look to improve their Spanish, whether its for an exam or in preparation for a holiday. My teaching method is thorough, through the coverage of all aspects of the language as they intertwine which makes the learning process easier and more intuitive.

Like any other language, Spoken Spanish is the best way to develop your skills and understanding of the language which is why every class begins with a warm-up where we hold a conversation in Spanish and don't worry, its not a test or evaluation! We're simply warming up our minds with words and phrases, accents, tenses, and so forth. After that, reading and grammar exercises are a good way to stimulate the brain while taking in information in a different language, adding vocabulary to your knowledge and developing your skills all in one. Following this, listening exercises refresh the senses and can be more invigorating. The tasks will include a song, advert, or clip from a movie along with a set of questions that engage the student and challenge them to obtain information from the listening activity. Now that the student is completely immersed in the language, its time for them to spill their thoughts on the page... but in Spanish.
This can depend on the student as mentioned earlier, they could be writing a short story, a shopping list, a holiday plan, a letter to a friend, a description of their dog, anything! This is where their mind runs free with ideas and they begin to convert whole sentences into Spanish and with my guidance and encouragement they will begin to speak, read, hear and write Spanish, eloquently.
