About Natasha
I am a language enthusiast who has spent 9 years of her life learning Spanish, 6 years learning French and a year learning Japanese. During my time at school, I received multiple language awards. At GCSE I got an 8 (A*) in French and Spanish, making me the highest performer in my cohort. I was mostly self-taught for Spanish, directing my own learning with the help of the exam spec, and I sat my GCSE a year early. I undertook French in Year 10 & 11 following this and achieved a Grade 8 despite not having started in Year 7 like the rest of my peers did.
At A-Level, I achieved an A in Spanish and A* in French. My particular strengths have always been cultural knowledge, research skills, literary/film analysis and essay-writing. My weaknesses at the time were mostly grammatical, but since my time at university, I feel much more well-rounded in my understanding of grammar.
Outside of school, I have worked as an au pair with French and Spanish families, teaching English to their children. I have experience as a teaching assistant for a French class and I have tutored Spanish and French on a friendly basis. During my time at Cambridge, I have taken part in student outreach and debunking the myth that there is "no future in languages".

We would discuss where you feel your "problem areas" are prior to our first session, and then we would discuss where you feel your language skills are stronger. This will allow me to build up a profile of your skills and understand if there are any patterns in the gaps in your knowledge. I will emphasise that my style of teaching is not strict. I like to be gentle with my students and do things at a pace that works for them. I work at building confidence over time rather than cramming students' heads full of knowledge. A language is for life - not just for exams. I would always encourage you to tell me what you want us to work on together since these are *your* lessons, and we can do this in a way that it directly supports the content you're covering in school. But if you're in a situation where you feel like you understand so little that you don't even *know* what you don't understand, we can work from the ground up and I will direct the course of our lessons myself based on your exam board spec.
I believe when it comes to languages, the most important thing is to speak the target language. Your comfort in Spanish will dictate how much or how little Spanish I speak in our lessons, but the idea is that I would slowly speak more Spanish to you over time (and hopefully, you would speak more Spanish back!). All grammatical explanations will be kept in English to avoid any possible confusion.
I would ask that you fill out a short pre-session sheet in English before every lesson so that we're able to use more of our lesson time for learning. This pre-session sheet would allow you to reflect on last week's lesson, as well as giving me an idea of what you would like to tackle in this week's lesson. This sheet also allows me to compile resources ahead of time. I would need this sheet to be sent to me ideally 24 hours before our lesson.
All lessons would be 1 hour long as a standard length. Leading up to exam season, I am happy to offer two-hour "cram sessions" with a quickfire format - we narrow down all the topics you want me to drill you on, and I will do just that.
This is the general format of a standard lesson:
- 5 minutes to discuss a small homework task in English/Spanish, assuming I've set you a task
- 5 minutes where we discuss the pre-session sheet in English. Any doubts from the previous week will be discussed then.
- If you are still unsure about a particular topic, we will complete a worksheet together (this should take about 15 minutes) which should hopefully allow me to see where exactly your doubts are coming from, as well as giving me the opportunity to target any misunderstandings that might be preventing you from understanding the material. I will also compile some resources for you to consult following the lesson (won't be a massive list - might just be one or two links).
- The remainder of the lesson would be spent working through a PowerPoint that I will produce myself. Said PowerPoint will be based on the topic you've said you'd like to cover in your pre-session sheet. It will include a summary of the topic itself and some short exercises geared towards drilling in key concepts. I will often ask you to explain things back to me to make sure you've understood them fully.
My lessons are aimed towards students of all skill levels and all ages. I have full and detailed knowledge of the AQA/Edexcel curriculum for GCSE Spanish, as well as the AQA/Edexcel curriculum for A-Level Spanish. Whether you're excelling and looking to jump from A to A* or looking to save your grades and score yourself a pass at GCSE, I would like to think my lessons are tailored in a way that I am able to accommodate all skill sets. If you tell me what you're looking to get out of these lessons, we can work with each other to make it happen! (:
Finally, I will say that I personally enjoy in making learning fun. So I will incorporate fun activities into your learning. This will either be through a 5-10 minute activity during our lesson (some examples might include a game of "Spanish taboo", "Spanish charades" or "guess the Spanish festival") or through a fun homework task (e.g. research a Spanish idiom and its origin; produce a 2 minute dramatic voice-over for your favourite Spanish book; watch a short comedic clip in Spanish and either produce a paragraph of analysis/observations on what made it funny, or present these observations verbally in our next lesson). Any homework tasks would never involve worksheets or textbook work unless you explicitly told me that this is something you would want from me. I am conscious of the fact you will already be getting set a lot of homework at school, and I don't wish to add to your mental load. I want you to be able to learn Spanish in a way that is calm, relaxing and tailored to your needs. Everything I mention here is a list of suggestions, but I really do believe in tailoring lessons to the individual. A quick conversation with you will be enough for me to know what I can do to best meet your needs.
