About Maria Cecilia

Since a young age I’ve always been involved in music and singing specifically. I was in the Santa Cecilia national choir academy in Rome working alongside conductors such as Sir Antonio Pappano. Since coming to London, I focused more on solo opera singing and had the chance to build my repertoire and train with Teresa Cahill and Jorge Carlo Mariani, with whom I’ve built a varied repertoire which includes everything from Italian bel canto, German lieder, French chanson and English art song.

About the lesson

For my theory lessons, I am a firm believer in learning with a variety of approaches. The main one I use is a student-led approach. For example, if the student is a singer I try and make them apply the theoretical knowledge taught to the pieces they are preparing. I find that this method makes what we learn during our theory lessons relevant to what they are learning in their practical lessons thus making the student more engaged and more likely to remember. For my singing lessons, I have a good background in the bel canto school, which is renowned for being one of the healthiest training systems for the voice. I am fluent in several languages and during my lessons there is an emphasis on bringing out the nuances of the pronunciation and the text through language and acting. Having also worked with musical theory I have applied the notions of vocal health and bel canto through the mixed technique required for pop and musical theatre.

If you are struggling to understand a topic, she will make sure you learn it inside out, from the basics up to some pretty advanced stuff!
