About Yvette

Qualified English teacher with a PGCE and QTS and with over 25 years of teaching experience. I have worked in a number of independent and international senior schools and also have prep school experience.

Adaptable, I have taught: literacy, EAL, IGCSE, GCSE, the IB and 13+ with success. I also have extensive one-to-one tuition experience, tutoring students of all ages from 4 to 80 years old.

My specialty is grammar but I am adept at breaking down skills such as analytical commentary to a prescriptive formula for struggling students, while challenging gifted and talented students with critical thinking skills.

I have lived in a number of different counties and speak French and Spanish so for EAL students, I have walked in their shoes. I also have a Cambridge CELTA.

I can offer lessons in almost any school course and EAL lessons to all ages.

About the lesson

I believe tutoring helps students to gain confidence as it is so closely tailored to their specific needs. Creating structured, motivating, challenging lessons that stretch students while guiding them through mindset obstacles is essential to their process and growth and I especially enjoy this aspect of my role.

As a teacher, I have high expectations of all my pupils. I enjoy allowing them to explore their creativity and make connections with the real world. My lessons are student-centered and my students are encouraged to come to independent conclusions, to be confident of these conclusions and to communicate them effectively.

As a creative planner, I enjoy planning lessons around my student's interests. I use a variety of teaching methods to appeal to different learning styles and include audio and kinesthetic activities.
