About Hanna
I mainly use my own materials for teaching even when preparing for exams. With younger students, I often start off with using their own day-to-day experiences to evaluate their skills and understand their preferred learning methods. I also tend to use other subjects with them as material as most of the time English is not exactly their favourite.
With older students, the outside materials would include magazine and newspaper articles about current affairs and general interests, starting from topics that they are preoccupied with or are of interest to them, working our way towards English Language exam papers in the end. I also recommend books (fiction in most cases) outside of the curriculum to encourage reading, which is beneficial to writing skills, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation as well. I usually make sure to source the books myself.
With students of all age groups, I sometimes use language examination papers that are for non-native speakers to test/improve grammar skills.

I specialise in supporting students aged 6-16 who are struggling with reading, writing, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, imaginative play and reading comprehension. My approach is predominantly skill-building support and teaching, which achieves both success on specific exams, such as SATs or GCSE as well as long-term improvement of academic performance in English and other school subjects. I also take students with SEN and provide my own accessible material for them.
I offer specific AQA exam board GCSE preparation for older students, as well as one-off essay writing, editing or proofreading services for btec and above.
Current students:
- (boy, 10): difficulty with reading comprehension, verbal and non-verbal reasoning, previous hearing problems, preparing for SATs
- (boy, 15): significant delay in reading comprehension skills, preparing for GCSE (AQA)
- (boy, 15): superficial reading comprehension, difficulty organising written arguments coherently, preparing for GCSE (AQA)

Details
For one-off essay writing assistance or proofreading, my rate is £30ph, for copyediting (where I make necessary changes to the text) £40. I do not offer free lessons in this case.
