About Chris
Hi there! I have supported individuals with disabilities for the better part of a decade, inhabiting many roles while consistently
obtaining meaningful results. Upon getting licensed to teach in 2022, I swiftly became a fierce advocate for traditionally
“hard-to-reach” students.
I could be seen teaching under desks and sinks; on swings and trampolines, and more, taking the mantra “meeting
the students where they are” to heart. No matter what, I was able to meet the needs of my assignment, day-to-day
and moment-to-moment, using my divergent skillset. Similarly, I always aligned myself with families and provided them
and their loved ones with all the resources I could. These actions, even down to a shared language between home and
school, helped develop consistency in my students' experience. Consistency engenders confidence in all students like
no other resource.
At the end of the day, I promoted careful consideration of my students' experience and ever-changing needs, while
also holding them to a high standard. Through gradually earned trust with my students and a humanistically inspired,
strengths-based, trauma-informed lens, I enabled all students to become the best versions of themselves. These
experiences demonstrated to them and others that they, too, were meaningful stakeholders in our community.
Some of my more formal capacities included: helping to draft a district handbook on behavior management for use
in professional development; recording and monitoring behavior data for my assigned 1:1 students; leading a self-
contained Responsive Classroom morning meeting and inclusive lunch group; substituting for case managers and general
educators; and assisting with RTI services for general education students.
These experiences culminated in becoming a long-term substitute for one of our technology specialists during her
maternity leave for the final three months of 2024. Because of my strong roots in psychology, I was also quite fond of
co-teaching an inclusive Dialectical Behavior Therapy lesson on interpersonal effectiveness with the guidance counselor
to rising sixth graders in June 2025.
