About Julian

During a forty-year career Julian has written and directed many different types of film from pop videos through industrial documentaries to fiction shorts, including live action and animation, but since his time as a Hollywood script doctor (e.g. for The Heist starring Pierce Brosnan) he has concentrated on writing feature and short film screenplays - about twenty in total. In the last 10 years Julian has written six full length screenplays and several shorts. Julian can help you write an intelligent, charming, witty and original screenplay from first principles based on what excites, interests and moves you - and most importantly, help you get it finished.

About the lesson

Former Hollywood script doctor will help you with any part of the screenwriting process, from start to finish, and anywhere in between - and especially if you are stuck or suffering writer's block. I will help you create an original, intelligent, well-structured story based on ideas that interest you using novel and quick techniques of analysis and research.

Bo (Rebecca's son) has both remarkable knowledge and passion for film. His evident love of language and wanting to understand the world and the stories we tell about it mean that he can use keen his intelligence to create fascinating and original film scripts. It is very enjoyable to teach Bo, not least because he seems genuinely thrilled to learn.

Omowunmi is an interested and interesting student whom I enjoy teaching. She has a good range of focused story ideas, mostly inspired by real life, which give her the chance of original and strong dramatic outcomes. I hope to help her build her vision into exciting and compelling screenplays.

He is an extremely talented and experienced producer and director across many genres, but it is his skill as a screenwriter that I think is exceptional. His scripts are engaging, inventive and original, often funny, with brilliant characterisation and masterly plotting.

As a tutor he can offer not only his own expertise, but an encyclopaedic knowledge of film, an analytical eye and an ability to provide a discerning and helpful overview. He understands the mechanics of scriptwriting, and can interpret the theory to his students in an intelligible way, as well as offering practical advice to resolve issues in an existing script.

He cuts through all the complicated theory from books and helps with the practicality of getting ideas down on paper.
