About Leeanne

As an experienced primary teacher of over 10 years in Scotland, I am passionate about education. I believe that it is never too early to begin on your journey and an enthusiastic tutor can help make the most of it.

Before primary teaching, I taught at the University of Edinburgh. This involved teaching a mixture of first and second year students in Sociology and Scottish Politics, and is where my passion for teaching and education began.

Since then, I have followed my passion to become a primary teacher. I have taught all ages and stages and have taught learners with different needs, including those with autism and ADHD.

In my spare time I love reading, writing, and playing video games. I've been an avid player of Minecraft for about 15 years now and don't see that stopping anytime soon!

Finally, as if teaching and tutoring didn't keep my busy enough, I'm also a mum to two children!

About the lesson

As an experienced primary teacher with over 10 years of experience who has taught every age and stage in the primary school, I am well aware of how important individualised lessons can be.

When it comes to numeracy and maths concepts, I always start with the CPA approach. This means I'll start to teach a new concept, or even revise a concept, using concrete materials. As they grow in confidence, I will introduce pictures to solve problems before implementing a more abstract approach, such as written calculations. Some learners tend to prefer one approach over the others, and this is when I use my own experience of teaching to decide what this might be and use that to help them on their numeracy and maths journey.

As well as teaching numeracy and maths concepts to learners who have found them challenging, I have also had the pleasure of teaching concepts to very able learners who need challenged. I am more than happy to apply this approach to my lessons as and when required.

Leeanne has been a fantastic tutor for my 7 year old daughter. She has really helped her with her reading and is now a lot more confident in school. My daughter is usually very shy but Leeanne put in the time to get to know her first so that the sessions were more productive. Thank you for all your help over the last year!
