About Cecily
Hi! I am language assistant teaching Chinese at Secondary school, and have imaginative in my methods of helping pupils to learn a tricky langauge.I have 3 years experience of one-to-one tuition as well as group lessons, and with pupils of varying ages and abilities. I am also the HSBC/British Council Chinese speaking competition advanced winner, which is a testament to my high linguistic level of Chinese. Having studied Chinese as my second language makes it easier for me to teach other students, because I understand the areas of difficulty, and can work to overcome them. I have also worked with several pupils to help prepare them for public examinations (e.g. GCSEs), and would be happy to offer this alongside or independently of the Chinese tuition.

In teaching any language it is important to focuse on all four aspects of the language: speaking, reading, listening and writing. In Chinese, I think it is vital to understand the connection between the written and spoken language, because this is often an area of difficulty for learners whose mother tongue is a European language. I like to help students break down and analyse the characters so they become a puzzle instead of something to be afraid of, and use games to enable the student to actively engage with the characters. This method is useful for language learners at any age/level, and can be beneficial to those who struggle with Chinese and those who are looking to extend their learning.
