About Sky

I have graduated from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor's in Computer Science, Philosophy, and Mathematics. I have also graduated from George Mason University with a Master's in Computer Science. My SAT score is a 1500 and ACT score is a 35.

On my free time, I play video games, watch YouTube, and code. At any point in time, I am always involved in some kind of personal/community project, and am currently involved in helping run a Geometry Dash project (and also help develop our website). In the past, I have also been involved in Wikipedia editing and creating Fandom wikis.

About the lesson

While I currently have not taught any students on SuperProf as of now, I have hundreds of hours of experience teaching the SAT/ACT on Varsity Tutors, and I have found consistent success in improving test scores, as described below.

One thing I have noticed is that students are often not prepared to reason through the material, as K-12 education is often primed at simply getting students to memorize what to do as opposed to actually understanding the content, especially for math. I make sure students are aware that what they are doing can be reasoned through, and guide them through how to approach test questions.

I break down questions as much as the student needs to, showing exactly how they should think about what is being conveyed in passages and math problems. The more I have learned to teach in a way that ensures the student is explicitly aware of how logical arguments work, and how that is applicable to questions, the more I have seen students successfully raise their scores. Other topics I cover include basic concepts, test-taking strategies, and pattern-recognition.

For the SAT, I have had concrete success with increasing 1000-1400 scores, generally increasing scores by 120-300 points. For the ACT, I have generally increased scores by 5+ points, with particular success in increasing scores on the Science section (in the most extreme example, I raised a score of 8 to the 28-32 range).

If you would like tutoring in other subjects, I would also be able to teach 1) most/all high-school subjects, 2) college-level computer science, philosophy, and mathematics, 3) certain introductory-level college topics/courses. Unlike the SAT/ACT, I do not feel especially experienced at teaching these subjects, but if this is something you would also be interested in, you can reach out to me about that.
