About Robbert

I have been teaching Christian Ethics at the Free University of Amsterdam after receiving my doctorate. Christian Ethics and Peace Theology was my field of research for many years. But my passion for Biblical Languages and especially Biblical Theology was stronger than my philosophical curiosity.
So I turned to the Internet to become a teacher of Biblical Greek and Hebrew, and Theology and Philosophy in general. Because of my early retirement I am now able to spend way more time in teaching.
I have taught on the Internet now for more than 5 years and I love it! I was able to work with students from all over the world and those encounters with people who sometimes came from the other side of the world have been exhilarating.
Teaching is a many-sided activity that I have loved from the start, now 40 years ago. To see someone grow in understanding, the joy of comprehension and the delight of sharing thoughts makes it a very intimate form of cooperation.

About the lesson

In my teaching we would connect on many levels in different ways. (Either in English or in Dutch.) We would find out about your goals, interests, needs as a student before establishing a program of studies that will work for you. even if it would take me out of my comfort zone. To a certain degree you would find in me an experienced fellow-student more than just a lecturer.
Our journey together would consist of both instruction, lectures, conversations, writing and research assignments.
If your preference goes out to learning Biblical Languages we would study Greek and/or Hebrew - from the level of beginner up to and including detailed exegesis of a Bible book of our choosing.
Ultimately, you would be in the driver's seat, but I would be your road map or TomTom as that device is called in Europe.
