About Diqui
I began my teaching career in 1997 as an adjunct professor at a small private university, where I taught general Microbiology to pre-nursing students. My next position was a 1-year sabbatical replacement position at Colorado College, where I taught Cell Biology, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology lectures and labs. I spent the next 24 years teaching General Biology, Microbiology, and Cell Biology at College of the Redwoods, a California Community College. Many of the students there were first-generation and from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Those students were just as intelligent and hard-working as those at the exclusive private schools, but they didn't have role models to help them navigate college. I joined the Multicultural and Diversity Committee to learn how I could establish classroom content and support so that all students could reach their full potential in and out of the classroom.

I can have the most impact with high school and lower division undergraduate students. That is where I have the most teaching experience.
I approach each session with an open mind and encourage students to be very honest when I ask how they have been studying. I can only help you improve if I know what you have already tried and what is and isn't working for you.
Each person will have unique needs, but there are core themes regarding areas where students struggle and techniques that will reduce their stress while improving their understanding.
I have significantly more experience teaching my subjects than most tutors who are students themselves. I also empathize with many of the barriers that first- and second-year college students face. I was a first-generation student myself and had no idea how to navigate college and career potential. I can help with those issues in addition to subject matter questions.
