About Shivani
I graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Strategic Communication and a minor in Writing Practices and Marketing. This combination has given me hands-on experience across a wide range of writing genres, from persuasive and professional writing to creative and literary forms. During my time there, I earned Distinction in my major by completing an original thesis, was selected as the Outstanding Graduate in my department, received the Excellence in Writing award, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Writing isn't just something I studied, it's something I've been recognized for, and I bring that depth of knowledge into every session.
As a tutor, I'm warm and encouraging. My academic approach is grounded in the belief that growth comes from extrinsic motivation and learning to appreciate the journey. I don't just help students fix a draft. I help them understand their progress, celebrate the small wins, and build a real relationship with writing over time. Whether you're staring down a blank page or trying to take a good essay to a great one, I'll be in your corner every step of the way.

I use an encouraging approach to help students connect with the writing process. My sessions are conversational and low-pressure: I want students to feel comfortable taking risks and exploring, because that's where the best writing happens. Each session is tailored to what the student is working on. But generally, I start with reviewing any writing they've brought, like a draft, an assignment prompt, or a piece they're working on independently. Together, we identify one or two specific goals for the session and work through those together with guided exercises or revision. We end each session with clear next steps so the student leaves knowing exactly what to work on. Over time, sessions also build toward longer-term goals like developing a consistent approach to writing and growing confidence in the student.
