About Alice
I have tutored students, primarily in maths and sciences, for the last 7 years, and have experience working with children of all ages - from primary school up to A-level. I also have experience with a vast range of tutoring requirements, from very specific questions requiring 1 or 2 focussed sessions, to more general difficulty and lack of confidence within a subject, working 1-on-1 on a weekly basis. In the past, I have also helped students to keep "ticking over" during the summer holidays and provided "back-to-school" sessions to prepare students for a new academic year.

My method of tutoring focuses on teaching the underlying concepts, from which students can build upon the specifics of their syllabus. I work with students in the areas they are struggling in most and focus on building up their confidence, step-by-step until they believe in their own ability. I work by tailoring explanations for each specific student; I don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" when it comes to tutoring, and I will find the best way to explain a problem for each individual until I am sure that they truly understand what they are doing. I try to demonstrate the reasons behind methods, or provide context to the specific problem, in order to foster genuine understanding of the principles and prevent "learning for the sake of learning". I will also tailor my teaching style to each individual student; whether this requires multiple practice questions, real life examples or interactive puzzles, I aim to make my sessions as engaging as possible for each tutee.
