About Lauren
I am a recent (2020) graduate from the Univeristy of Cambridge with a 2.1 degree in Biological Natural Sciences and will be starting my Master's degree at the University of Oxford in October. I have been tutoring A-level Biology and Chemistry for the past year over Zoom using online whiteboards. I have tutored 6 students over the past year, tailoring sessions to their individual goals and needs.
I aim to follow my students throughout the academic year to give them continuity and so I can best assess their progress. My students often send work to be marked or ask for set questions which I provide feedback on at the start of the next lesson. I find this helps target our work in the sessions - working on specific goals individual to each student.
Further, I have worked in a school for the past 8 months as a Learning Support Assistant. This has given me experience teaching some science content at the GCSE and A-level standard. In this role, I have supported students in lessons and ran several 1:1 academic science catch up sessions to bring students up to speed with class content.

I generally tutor science students who aim to boost their grade as I want to inspire more young people to pursue science into their later careers. I aim to tailor tutoring sessions to the individual student, using their exam board specification as a guide to determine where to focus. My teaching style uses various visual learning techniques to engage the student and support explanations of more complex topics. Alongside this, I use quizzes and challenge questions to track progress and highlight any areas where more support may be necessary. I hope to provide fun, engaging, educational tutoring to help students achieve their full potential.
A typical lesson usually involves:
- first 5-10 minutes reviewing any homework, marked work, or set questions to highlight key areas where the student excelled and areas of focus
- 45-50 minutes content review/teaching with quizzes, questions, and past paper exam questions mixed throughout
- Final 5 minutes of challenge questions, summary, and discussion about what was covered.
This format is general and usually varies based on the student's needs and prefered learning style.
