About Judith
Students who work with me learn for the first time that there is actually a method which will help them to read and spell at grade level. They also learn that their reading challenges have to do with the way they learn not that there is something wrong with their ability to learn. Far from it, my students are young people who have many gifts and the potential to excel.
The Orton Gillingham Method uses a kinesthetic approach to learning. This American program developed 110 years ago by a neuroscientist and Quaker educator is used world wide to enable students with academic challenges in literacy, to succeed. A student uses the senses of seeing, hearing and touch.
By tracing the vowels (or letters) and pronouncing them correctly the neurotransmitters in the brain develop a new neural pathway which makes it possible for the student to retain the information and apply it to daily literacy challenges. For example, reading comprehension, writing paragraphs and stories, spelling correctly and oral presentations. I recommend that parents search the Orton Gillingham Program on Google Search to inform themselves of its efficacy. It has been shown to be highly successful for students struggling with labels such as dyslexia, ADD, ADHD and other neurological behaviours.
The program is student centred, one on one, kinesthetic, highly motivating and successful in rebuilding student self confidence and ability.

My teaching method is online and requires some manipulative materials such as magnets, magnetic board and rice tray.
A typical lesson plan involves oral, kinesthetic and written practise with specific vowel sounds and pairs of vowels (digraphs and diphthongs) found in the target language. I am a specialist with 27 years experience in working with students at the elementary and secondary level.
