About Maisie
With more than 17 years of experience as a drum tutor, I guide school students, college learners, and working professionals in developing strong drumming foundations. My approach is friendly, motivational, and focused on steady progress. I believe simple explanations and consistent practice help students learn faster. My lessons include rhythm reading, stick technique, timing, coordination, and musical expression. Students also learn how to break down songs, experiment with patterns, and build confidence in performance situations.
I teach related subjects such as music basics, rhythm theory, ear training, and stage skills. These subjects help students become confident musicians beyond just playing the drums. What makes my teaching unique is the balance of structure and creativity. I create lesson plans that are clear and organized, but also allow space for students to explore their own ideas. My goal is to inspire a strong love for drumming while helping students achieve professional-level skills.

My teaching methodology for drums is built around Communication, Creativity, and Flexibility, and these three pillars guide every part of my lessons. Communication is essential because it helps me understand the student’s background, rhythm ability, and personal goals. I encourage students to openly tell me what they want to improve, what they find difficult, and what kind of drumming inspires them. I explain every technique in simple language, and I check regularly if the student feels comfortable with the pace of learning.
Creativity is something I highly value. Drums are one of the most expressive instruments, and I want students to experience that freedom. I include creative activities such as exploring dynamic levels, altering accents within grooves, building variations of common patterns, and improvising drum fills. These exercises help students think musically, not just technically. I also use play-along tracks from different genres so students feel how drums interact with bass, melody, and harmony. This builds confidence and gives them the joy of playing like they are part of a real band.
Flexibility allows me to adapt lessons to different learning styles. Some students enjoy detailed step-by-step instruction, while others learn better by experimenting with full musical pieces. I adjust the teaching plan depending on what helps them progress. If a student needs extra time with a certain pattern, I slow down the material and provide alternative drills. If a student moves quickly, I challenge them with more advanced grooves, coordination exercises, or tempo jumps. This flexible approach ensures that every learner grows at a comfortable and motivating speed.
Besides drums, I teach rhythm development, music basics, and performance preparation. My aim is to help students understand music in a complete way, not only physically through drumming but also mentally through rhythm awareness. With communication, creativity, and flexibility as the base of my teaching, students receive supportive guidance that helps them build strong technique, expressive ability, and long-term confidence.
