About Christopher
I am a recently qualified teacher with specialisms in ESOL at all levels, English Literature and Language GCSE and functional skills and creative writing.
I have experience teaching in the university, college, secondary and home tutoring sectors. I have a passion for developing underlying skills in my learners, allowing them to unlock their subjects and synthesise knowledge for themselves, facilitating learning.
I have also covered literacy subjects with my learners such as academic skills (essay structure, comparing and contrasting sources etc.), employability skills and referencing.
I am also a published author and editor, having a collection of short stories published as well as an edited anthology and 18 issues of an award-winning arts-and-literature magazine.

Chris proved to be an adaptable and creative operator and was employed by the University over two months to work with a team of English tutors as part of small team. Christopher Moriarty was a student on our PGCE (M) 14+English (ESOL and Literacy) full time course from September 2016 until June 2017. This is an initial teacher education qualification for teachers in the FE and Skills Sector (post 14). Chris can now apply for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) which is recognised in law as equal to QTS for teaching in schools.
Chris has met the 2014 Professional Standards for teaching (Education and Training Foundation), demonstrating excellent practice throughout his training. He is now extremely well equipped to make a very positive contribution to your organisation should he be appointed to the post.
Chris is a talented and highly effective teacher. On his professional placement he showed great enthusiasm for his subject and for learning. He plans and prepares with close attention to detail and he has very good subject knowledge.
His classroom management style is very positive and inclusive and he consistently sets high expectations which motivate, inspire and challenge learners. He is imaginative and innovative in his development of resources.
He monitors learners’ progress sensitively and systematically and he has used a wide range of formative and summative assessment methods. He has the dedication characteristic of outstanding teachers and his commitment to the course was exemplary as demonstrated by his attendance, meeting of deadlines and high standard of assignments.
Chris also undertook thoroughly and effectively all the associated duties that support formal teaching situations. He established strong, productive working relationships with both students and with colleagues. Learners find him readily approachable and staff report that he is a co-operative colleague who is a valued member of the teams with which he has worked.
