About Thomas
I am a PGCE and QTS qualified teacher of Religious Education and Philosophy, and have been teaching for half a decade. My specialism is in Theology, with a 1st class bachelor's degree in it from the London School of Theology, as well as a Masters in Divinity from the University of St Andrews. In addition to these qualifications, I have a CertHE in Philosophy, Religion, and Music from the University of Bangor.
My specialised experience combined with my broad subject-related qualifications mean that I am a good candidate for teaching students who have a wide variety of interests, but have chosen to take RE/Philosophy as a GCSE or A-Level.

I work with students to help build confidence in essay writing, clarity of argument, and exam technique. This helps them understand difficult ideas and, crucially, express them in a way that examiners want.
My lessons focus on:
• Clear essay structure and argumentation (AO1 vs AO2).
• Evaluation and comparison of thinkers and/or religious ideas.
• Understanding key philosophers and ideas.
• Exam strategy and time management.
I am particularly experienced with OCR GCSE and A-level, but I am open to working with other exam boards or curricula.
I regularly help students move from mid-band answers into top grades through developing their essay writing skills and knowledge of the core ideas.
My lessons are open, chatty, and friendly. I want my students to learn to work and play with the arguments and ideas, rather than treat them as static objects; understanding them, critiquing them, and coming up with their own responses.
However, the skills students learn in my lessons will not just help them pass an exam, but equip them to be free and abstract thinkers who consider the implications, morality, and outcomes of their ideas and actions, and who can express their thoughts to others with clarity and ease.
