About David

I am a fully qualified Science Teacher (QTS) with over 13 years of teaching experience across state schools, independent education, online schools and private tuition.

I hold a PGCE in Secondary Science (Chemistry) with Qualified Teacher Status from Kingston University and a BSc (Hons) in Geology from Birkbeck, University of London.

Throughout my career, I have taught Biology and the other sciences at Key Stage 3, GCSE and IGCSE level, helping students of different abilities develop their scientific understanding, confidence and examination skills.

Between 2019 and 2025, I established and ran a successful private science tuition business, providing personalised online and face-to-face lessons. My practice developed a strong client base through recommendations and referrals, reflecting the importance I place on professionalism, reliability and the quality of my teaching.

My experience also includes teaching in fully online schools, supporting students with additional learning needs, and holding responsibilities for gifted and talented education and curriculum enrichment.

I am familiar with the requirements of major UK examination boards, including AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas and CCEA, as well as Cambridge International qualifications.

I believe that effective teaching combines strong subject knowledge with patience, encouragement and an understanding of how individual students learn. My aim is to make Biology accessible, engaging and rewarding, whether students need help overcoming difficulties or are working towards the highest examination grades.

Above all, I want my students to feel confident in their abilities and develop the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

About the lesson

I offer personalised Biology tuition for GCSE and IGCSE students, delivered by a fully qualified Science Teacher (QTS) with over 13 years of experience in classroom teaching, online education and private tuition.

**My teaching approach**

Every student is different, so I tailor my lessons to their individual abilities, learning styles and academic goals. Whether you are struggling with fundamental concepts, looking to improve your examination grades or aiming for the highest levels of achievement, I will help you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed.

My approach focuses on building a genuine understanding of Biology rather than simply memorising facts and definitions. I explain complex biological processes clearly, break challenging topics into manageable steps and encourage students to ask questions, make connections and think scientifically.

Lessons typically include clear explanations, diagrams, worked examples, interactive questioning, problem-solving activities and examination-style questions. I use regular assessment and constructive feedback to identify misconceptions, monitor progress and target areas requiring further attention.

**Examination preparation**

I provide targeted preparation for GCSE and IGCSE Biology examinations, including support with interpreting experimental data, understanding biological processes, practical-based questions, extended written responses and examination technique.

I have experience teaching specifications from major examination boards, including AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas, CCEA and Cambridge International. Lessons can be aligned with the student's particular specification, ensuring that revision and examination practice remain relevant and focused.

**Lesson structure and duration**

Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate.

Each lesson is structured around the student's priorities, whether that involves consolidating classroom learning, revisiting difficult topics, preparing for assessments or developing the deeper understanding required for higher grades.

I provide a supportive, patient and encouraging learning environment where students can ask questions freely and develop confidence at their own pace.

**Who are my lessons for?**

I teach students studying GCSE and IGCSE Biology, including those who:

- Need additional support with challenging topics or gaps in their knowledge.
- Want to strengthen their understanding and improve their examination performance.
- Are aiming for grades 7–9 at GCSE.
- Benefit from personalised teaching or additional support with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

My aim is to help every student become a more confident, capable and independent learner, equipped not only to perform well in examinations but also to develop a lasting understanding of Biology.
