About Jemma

I am quite a new teacher with around 3 years experience. I have worked in many different spheres of ESL teaching, these include: Group classes of both adults and children within the UK, Spain and Hungary, private in-person tutoring and online classes, both group and one to one lessons.

During my time as an ESL teacher I try to be as innovative as possible and my classes involve a lot of communication. During my classes we will have a lot of practical work with error correction, especially when it comes to pronunciation - I make sure that this is of upmost importance!
There is always homework given which is related to either the lesson or your specific goals and will be corrected with feedback as quickly as possible.

The reason I wanted to become an ESL teacher is because I am a very inquisitive person with a love for travelling. I like to learn about different countries and cultures and enjoy visiting them. I like learning about the history of different places and find interesting things everywhere I go. My previous work experience had been within the hospitality industry and I think the skills I had learnt within this industry has and will help me further within my teaching career. I am also a very organised person which is a big help when planning lessons and making sure that the lesson runs smoothly and logically.

I like to fully engage with my students and think that having a good bond with them is important for both myself and my student because having a mutual respect for each other helps in the learning process and I also like to tailor my lessons to what my students like so they can become completely immersed and learning becomes fun, imaginative and interesting rather than a chore!

My teaching ethos is to be as communicative and interactive as possible, I like to introduce some fun into the classroom with lots of different activities and to make sure every student feels listened too!
I enjoy working with students from all different nationalities. I find it very easy to build good working relationships with my students and I create a safe, comfortable and inviting atmosphere within the classroom, both within a physical classroom and online :)

About the lesson

If you choose me as your teacher I will work with you to set goals and targets that we will be able to achieve through hard work and dedication. I will constantly be assessing your English language needs and you will receive unlimited feedback. Every lesson will be tailored specifically to your wants and needs. We will discuss your strengths and weaknesses and focus on which areas you want to improve, anything from speaking/fluency improvement to grammar structures and everything in-between!

My experience, qualifications, results of my previous teaching adventures and the time and effort that I will put into your lessons and our time together will be beneficial in you continued improvement. I am well-travelled and so can understand and respect different cultures. I am also a friendly, caring, unauthoritative, fun and considerate teacher who wants to make you feel at ease and relaxed within our lessons. I can build good, strong bonds with my students which helps them to feel more confident when using English, I know when to encourage and challenge and every lesson will go at your specific pace. I work hard to create an inviting atmosphere within my classroom and I make sure that every student feels comfortable.

I can help with personal and professional development, English within social environments, exam preparation - IELTS, and just for fun!! :) :) :)
