About Alastair

I am a Teacher of Mathematics with a passion for teaching. I graduated with a BSc in Mathematics (first class honours) and then I moved on to do a PGCE (secondary) Mathematics (teacher training). I finished this course in June 2007. During the last few years I have also completed an MSc and PhD. Sessions are provided by me online and are group sessions, so with the number of pupils in each class questions have to be asked at the end of the class. At these schools I had a range of classes (from year 7 up to A-Level). I did have several top set classes at KS3 and KS4, so there is a lot of pressure to perform. I have taught Maths. Make sure that the basics are right before moving onto the more difficult work. Listen to what the pupils feel they need to improve on and then focus on these topics and exam technique especially with the functional skills questions. I will normally start by reviewing last lesson, then I will ask the student if they wish to cover any specific topic. If not depending on year I will choose an appropriate topic and do knowledge based questions followed by exam technique.

We got Alstair to teach our son Mathematics and got a very high level 8 which is equivalent to the old A/A* grade when we were aiming for a level 6.
