About Vivien
I grew up speaking Mandarin and Cantonese and trained as a teacher in China, where I have a Chinese teaching license for middle school level plus a TCSOL certification specifically for teaching Chinese to non-native speakers. Over the past ten years I've worked in classrooms across Zhongshan, including running a bilingual kindergarten class that stayed together for three years running under my teaching. I moved to the UK last year and I'm settled in Margate now. Outside of teaching I've run my own small business and managed a social media page for a children's English-learning brand, so I'm used to explaining things clearly and keeping people engaged, not just lecturing at them. I take teaching seriously and turn up prepared, but I try not to make lessons feel stiff or overly formal.

I'm a native Mandarin and Cantonese speaker with a TCSOL qualification and ten years teaching internationally, including a few years working with bilingual kids aged 3 to 7 in an IB school. I've taught complete beginners, nervous teenagers, and adults trying to pick up enough for a trip home or to talk to family. Lessons are relaxed and go at your pace, we'll work on speaking first, build up characters gradually, and I'll adjust as we go depending on what you actually need rather than following a rigid syllabus. Happy to work with kids or adults, and equally happy if you just want conversation practice rather than formal lessons.
