About Simon
Hello, I'm Simon, a qualified English teacher with over 10 years of experience helping learners develop their confidence, communication skills and academic success.
Throughout my career, I have taught English in secondary schools and further education colleges, working with students of a wide range of ages, abilities and backgrounds. I currently teach GCSE English and work as an AQA examiner, giving me valuable insight into how students can improve their reading, writing and analytical skills.
Before returning to full-time teaching, I spent several years leading national education projects, developing learning programmes and working with schools across England and Wales. This experience strengthened my ability to adapt learning to suit different audiences and learning styles, something that remains at the heart of my tutoring approach today.
I believe that successful learning starts with positive relationships. Many students come to me feeling anxious about English or lacking confidence in their abilities. My aim is to create a supportive, encouraging environment where learners feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and developing their skills at their own pace.
Outside of teaching, I am passionate about education, literacy and helping young people achieve their potential. Whether you're looking to improve your confidence, strengthen your English skills or work towards a specific academic goal, I am committed to helping you succeed.

Every student is different, so every lesson I teach is tailored to the individual learner. Before we begin, I take time to understand a student's strengths, areas for development and learning goals, allowing me to create personalised lessons that meet their specific needs.
My teaching approach is supportive, structured and engaging. I break down complex skills into manageable steps, use clear explanations and provide regular opportunities for practice and feedback. I focus on building confidence as well as improving knowledge and skills, helping students become more independent and successful learners.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although longer sessions can be arranged if required. Each lesson includes a mix of teaching, guided practice and independent application to ensure students make measurable progress.
I am a qualified English teacher with over 10 years of experience working with young people and adult learners. I have taught in secondary schools and colleges, worked extensively with GCSE students, and currently work as an AQA GCSE English examiner. This gives me a detailed understanding of what successful responses look like and how students can improve their performance.
