About Robert

Everyone thinks writing is easy, until you try to do it.

I have a knack for writing, an aptitude for breaking down complicated ideas and techniques and explaining them.

I've spent years writing professionally and academically, so I can meet you wherever you're at, figure out your next step, and get you there. Or, I can give you survival coaching on how to get that term paper over the finish line. Sometimes you just have to pass and that's OK.

I have real-world experience with academic, scientific, journalistic, and creative writing to bring to our coaching sessions. If I don't have an answer, I know where to get it.

About the lesson

I'm here to help you level up your writing. Do you need help putting together a research paper? Lost the thread on your thesis? Do you need a sounding board on your genre fiction opus? I'm here to help you get your best writing onto paper.

Need help with academic writing? I can coach you on how to research like a pro, how to organize your thoughts and structure your essay, or get back to the forest when you've lost it in the trees while working on your thesis.

Need writing coaching? I can help you at every step of the writing process. I can explain various theories of how to plot and structure your writing, review your writing, give feedback, and generally help you polish your prose.

My academic writing experience includes three published papers, graduate-level term papers, and reviewing and editing peers' papers. I've written on topics including ecotoxicology, carcinology, malacology, behavioral morphology, geology, drone use in marine ecology, and public health. I worked as a staff writer for a legal services company, paying the bills as a writer for several years. I have also written for two college newspapers. But I'm most proud of selling four short stories: three science fiction and one horror. I recently became an associate member of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association.

My teaching philosophy is to give you the tools to improve your own writing. We can go over your writing, find what's not working, and walk you through examples of how other writers made it work. I believe expertise means being a librarian rather than a library. If something's not working, I can explain why and how to get back on track.
