About AJ
AJ Sharma is a New York City based fashion, commercial and fine art photographer from Pondicherry, India. His work has been published in printed and online media in the US such as the New York Times as well as various fashion and architecture magazines. AJ worked as a travel, lifestyle and fashion photographer for 6 years, shooting across the globe from megacities to remote uninhabited places. In 2014 he had his first solo fine art gallery exhibition - Unwrapture. This body of work uses a dancer bound by seat belts to portray a narrative about urban angst and freedom. Soon after, MOD Institute Berlin featured his second body of work titled "Labour Narratives" as the photographic part of their international exhibition "Weltstadt" (Metropolis). His multi-lingual and multi-cultural roots along with the myriad influences from his travel experiences have resulted in a versatile yet universal style. AJ lives in New York City and splits his time between commercial work, fine art, teaching and humanitarian projects. He is available for assignments both locally and internationally.

I fell in love with images long before I held a camera. And in my years as a commercial and fine art photographer I have learned that the most important asset to a photographer is the photographic eye. In my classes I focus on the various "ways of seeing" as a foundation to our skills. We will first journey through art and great works of all mediums to train our eyes and understand why we like some images more than others. We will explore concepts of composition, color and cover a variety of subjects. We will also focus on technical aspects of our cameras of choice and learn the tools at our disposal to create better images. Along with this we will also explore the world of post processing to bring out the very best in our images. With this newfound knowledge, we will apply our skills in photographing "photo assignments", which we will review and discuss together. Finally we will work on creating and editing a body of work and building a portfolio filled with your best work. My approach covers the complete set of skills needed to improve your photography. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn from the basics or you are experienced and looking to improve your skills, the individualistic approach to my teaching ensures you will have a lot to gain from these lessons.
