About Gergely
I'm a final-year PhD candidate in Psychology and a university seminar tutor in research methods. My research explores how perceived visual gravity shapes our sense of time. I'm a Vice-Chancellor's Scholar, hold an MSc in Psychology, and am a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society.
I teach quantitative and qualitative research methods to undergraduate psychology students, teaching that has been recognised with Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA). Many of the students I meet have convinced themselves they're "not a numbers person", when the real problem is that nobody explained things in a way that made sense to them. Helping someone get past that, and seeing the moment when it finally clicks, is the reason I teach.
Because I'm an active researcher, everything I teach comes from current practice. Designing experiments, collecting and analysing data, and writing up results are part of my everyday work, so what you get is hands-on, up-to-date knowledge rather than textbook theory alone.

My approach is practical. We start with what you're actually working on, whether that's a coursework assignment, a dissertation analysis, or an experiment you're building in PsychoPy, and I teach the underlying concepts through your own data rather than abstract textbook examples. My aim is that you understand why you're running a particular analysis, not just which buttons to click, so you can do it confidently on your own next time.
Lessons are online, typically one hour, though I'm happy to run longer sessions for dissertation work or exam preparation. I use screen sharing so we can work through SPSS and PsychoPy together in real time, and I send a short summary of what we covered after each session.
I work with undergraduate and postgraduate students in psychology and related fields at any level.
