About Anirban
Biology is beauty within complexity. When I first saw a fluorescent microscopic image of an animal cell (this was in high school), I was fascinated by the organization and coherence the micron-sized structure displayed. This inspired me to do undergraduate and master's in biotechnology and chemical engineering, back in my country India. Six years in university saw me playing with complex fluids, live cells, informatics, genetic networks, and cellular reactors to understand how we could harness teamwork at the cellular level to deliver sustainable solutions in environment and healthcare. Presently, I am a doctoral student at McGill University, working at the intersection of applied microbiology and environmental remediation.

Teaching is akin to storytelling - spinning a beautiful tale keeps the listener aroused and welcomed. Till date, I have taught undergraduate and graduate classes in Bioengineering and Biological methods - my focus has always been to supplement text with real life examples I have faced during my experiments. In biology, it is empirical to "feel" the subject to get the hang of it. Another facet is discussion - a typical teaching session of an hour has at least 20 minutes devoted to class discussion. As Richard Feynman remarked, "I would rather have questions that can't be answered, than answers that can't be questioned." For me, making you love the subject is my goal - and once you love the subject, getting a top grade really doesn't worry you anymore as it all comes to you naturally!
