What's a teacher? What's the use? What is your function? For What A Teacher, A Teacher? What's the use? What is your function? In the XXI Century, in the "Age of communications", supposedly everything is on the Internet, paid or free in many cases. You can find methods for almost everything one can think of, a massive access to an infinite library, with reliable data and sometimes not so much, or erroneous without going further, unprovable in its source and authorship or scientific rigor. Something so well described and narrated by JL Borges, many years ago, in "The Library of Babel" and many other writings. In my experience of 20 years as a teacher, I come to the conclusion that in most cases, having all the information is exactly the same as having nothing, and that, in most subjects, it only generates a time of consumption and Soon frustration and boredom. What is missing? What is wrong? In my opinion, what is missing is an "Other". A real "Other", not virtual, that has certain characteristics: That it be human. That has sensitivity. That we can trust, in their advice, recommendations, power of synthesis, eye "clinical", experience as a teacher (can play barbarian, be famous and not know how to explain). Let us observe and listen "from the outside", and guide us at certain times. That accompanies us in our learning process, without haste and anxieties, respecting our times, but without extreme pauses. That dosificar the amount of information otrorgada in each class, so that it is "assimilable" by the student, and motivate but not frustre. That learning is pleasant and not torture. That can mark us errors and give us solutions or clues that bring us closer to them. That limits us at certain times when we "resist" to learn something new or progress. That you can apply all the possible methodology and didactics, manuals, exercises, general recordings etc ... for our case in particular that does not look like or have anything to do with any other student. To help us connect with the instrument and with "others" so necessary for our growth and learning process. This is part of the role of the teacher, in my opinion. Miguel Luisi
