About Harjeet

I am a professional tabla performer, instructor, and All India Radio (AIR) artist based in Canada. I hold a Double M.A. degree in Tabla from Prayag Sangeet Samiti and Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, with my training rooted in the prestigious Delhi Gharana tradition under Late Ustad Shamim Ahmad Khan.

Over the years, I have performed at numerous concerts, cultural festivals, and musical events across India, Pakistan, the United States, and Canada, sharing the rich heritage of Indian classical music with diverse audiences. One of the highlights of my career was performing on the main stage at the World Culture Festival 2016 alongside renowned Bollywood musicians of India, in front of a global audience of over 3.5 million.

I teach students of all ages and skill levels, from complete beginners to advanced performers. My lessons are personalized and structured, covering proper hand technique, bols, Qaidas, Relas, Gats, Tukdas, Chakradars, taal, layakari, accompaniment, and solo performance skills.

Whether you’re learning for personal enjoyment, stage performances, competitions, or music examinations, I provide patient, step-by-step guidance to help you build a strong foundation and develop confidence as a tabla player.

I believe in preserving the authenticity of the Gharana while making every lesson engaging, practical, and inspiring for today’s learners. Online and in-person lessons are available.

About the lesson

My lessons are based on the rich tradition of the Delhi Gharana Classical and Light tabla. I teach students of all ages and skill levels—from complete beginners to advanced performers. Lessons are tailored to each student’s pace and goals, ensuring steady progress and a strong musical foundation.

Students will learn:
• Correct hand technique and posture
• Basic and advanced bols
• Qaidas, Relas, Gats, Tukdas, Chakradars, and traditional compositions
• Taal, layakari (rhythmic development), and accompaniment for vocal and instrumental music
• Solo performance skills and stage confidence
• Preparation for music examinations and performances
