About Alejandro

Julio Alejandro Lara Monroy, better known as Alex Lara, was born in Mexico City on June 15, 1983. He began his musical studies at the age of 11. He studied at the Yamaha Academy where he finished the classical guitar course obtaining the 6th grade awarded by the Yamaha Music Foundation. He studied at the National School of Music (UNAM) the career of instrumentalist with a specialty in classical guitar under the supervision of Alfredo Rovelo. He has attended to courses and master classes taught by musicians such as Ellen Aagaard, Stefano Scodanibbio, Magnus Andersson, Remi Álvarez and Ernesto García de León, focused on interpretation and music creation. His musical concerns have led him to find fertile ground outside the academy to exploit his talent. During 2005 he toured Mexico and Central America as part of the band of the pop group Kabah, where he also had the opportunity to work alongside renowned musicians and singers such as Giovanni Figueroa, Eugenia León, Alejandra Guzmán and Ha-Ash. Between 2006 and 2013 he published Panamerica and Leti Hum Eek - Inda Jani - Mish Masadi, albums with original songs written and performed by Lara and the members of Turbina, the rock band he founded in 2001. Turbina has been placed as a reference for his generation around the national independent rock circuit. Turbina received a nomination as best independent band in the 2007 MTV Latin America awards and has performed at major festivals such as Vive Latino (Mexico City, 2011) and SXSW (Austin, 2012 and 2013 ). In the summer of 2010, Alejandro Lara was selected by the Omi International Arts Center and travels to New York City to participate in the annual edition of international residences for musicians. Tylor Ho Bynum, Carmina Escobar, Dominic Lash, Fay Victor and Keith Kirchoff were some of the outstanding musicians that said residency program hosted in that year and with whom Alejandro Lara shared the stage. Other ensembles and groupings with which he has collaborated are the Mexican improvisation project Generación Espontanea, the Guitar Orchestra of the National School of Music, the Colombian singer Sara Kali, the actress and singer Indira Pensado and the rock bands AJ Dávila and Carmen Coast, among others. Due to his versatile and eclectic style, Alex Lara has been able to perform in the most important venues in the country, from the Carlos Chavez Hall, to the National Auditorium and Foro Sol, among others.

In the case of acoustic and electric guitar, my teaching method is based on the learning of popular music repertoire (rock, pop, metal, etc ...) chosen by the students. At the same time, concepts of musical theory, music theory, technique, intonation and rhythm are reviewed and applied to the songs and pieces that are being learned. It is about making the class as fun and dynamic as possible. In the case of classes for children between 3 and 5 years old, the method I recommend is the Suzuki method, which requires an active participation of the parents. In this class (at least once a week) an adult must be present who will serve as the teacher at home for the rest of the week. This class is full of games and songs which keeps children interested and motivated in order to continue developing his musical potential. The participation of parents and the family in general is crucial. The repertoire and the technique that are practiced in this method are classic based.
