About Billy
Billy is a former BFI Project Manager and has set up one of the country's most successful 18+ practical filmmaking programmes, which formed a cornerstone of an OFSTED Outstanding Academy in 2023. He routinely mentors dozens of 18-19 year old students and has created a variety of visual works as part of his expansive career in Cinematography. He has significant experience in producing low to mid budget short form content and actively works alongside high level media and film companies in the UK. He is in love with the world of film and creating beautiful, creative imagery. Above all else, he values and encourages character traits in his students - curiosity, hustle, and kindness.

My lessons are grounded in practical filmmaking methodology and real-world expectations associated with creating video and film content for clients. Both highly technical and 'big picture' - I combine the need to deliver sophisticated and well lit/framed material with pushing boundaries and defining your style. The typical length of a lesson is one hour and will contain both taught and discursive elements. Accountability is the number 1 rule. You will be set clear tasks and are expected to actively hone your skills. High expectations are set from the get go. Billy is a former BFI Project Manager and has set up one of the country's most successful 18+ practical filmmaking programmes, which formed a cornerstone of an OFSTED Outstanding Academy in 2023. He routinely mentors dozens of 18-19 year old students and has created a variety of visual works as part of his expansive career in Cinematography. He has significant experience in producing low to mid budget short form content and works alongside high level media and film companies in the UK. I am a fully qualified teacher with 10 years of experience in film education in the UK, with a track record of my students progressing into entry level roles in the Film or TV industry. These lessons are aimed at 16+ minimum but are suitable for those wanting to transition into filmmaking as a career.

Billy has taught me several things about film production that I never knew. From 1st AC training, lighting, producing, scheduling, budgeting and even giving me script feedback.
