About Chris
Hi! I'm Chris, a private tutor offering specialist tuition in GCSE and A-Level Maths and Further Maths.
Teaching has always been something I've wanted to do and I know from experience that I'm good at explaining things, so tutoring is the perfect way for me to be able to do just that! I'm excited to be able to help you to thrive at maths and see it in a different way to how you might see it now. The thought of a student realising they get a topic and can actually do it is awesome and a huge motivator for me. Besides, I just like doing maths :)
I have a first class degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Warwick and 4 A-Levels, and spent 10 years after university working as a statistician for Royal Mail, completing several statistical analysis projects working with huge datasets, walking senior figures at Royal Mail and Ofcom through some of those analyses and what the results meant, preparing Excel training sessions for colleagues and becoming the go-to person amongst my colleagues when they needed help with statistics.
So you'll be being taught by someone who’s been there, done it and worn the T-shirt when it comes to studying, using and explaining maths and statistics, and coming from outside of a school teaching background, I can also potentially offer you a different perspective and way of teaching to what you may have seen in school, meaning a session with me is not just another maths lesson with another maths teacher.
I'm fully insured and have an enhanced DBS certificate, which I'll be happy to show or provide a copy of on request.

I offer tuition both online and face-to-face, and both 1-1 and small group sessions (max. 5 students*).
Your first session with me will be a 30-minute discussion where we’ll get to know each other a bit and talk about where you are with your maths, what you want to achieve and which specific topics you need help with so I can plan how best to help you achieve your aims. All subsequent sessions will last for 1 hour.
In my sessions, you won't just be presented with random theorems and magic formulae and asked to go through a bunch of questions in a textbook.
Instead, I'll introduce you to each topic from the start. For each topic, we'll cover why we would want to study it and understand what problems the maths will help us to solve, and then derive the results and formulae that you need to know together. That way, you'll feel like you understand the maths you're learning - because you actually do.
We'll then go through some questions and I'll show you how to tackle these systematically, covering where to start and how to work through the question to get to the right answer, so when it comes to exam day, you'll see a complex problem and know exactly what to do.
I'll provide you with resource sheets to help you remember the key concepts and techniques we've covered in our sessions.
These resource sheets will also have some practice exercises for you to try - I'll expect you to do these exercises and practice what you've learnt in between sessions, as the only way to get good at maths is to do it!
For online sessions, I use an online collaborative whiteboard, so you will find it helpful to use a touch screen and stylus, as this will allow you to write on the whiteboard.
* Note - different prices apply for group sessions. Please see the 'Details' section under 'Rates' for details.

Chris has been helping me to improve my computer skills. He is really kind and very patient. My computer skills were extremely poor and Chris was both absolutely encouraging and reassuring. He did
everything to improve my confidence
and I would recommend him most
strongly as a tutor.See more recommendations
