About Molly
Hi! My name is Molly, and I am excited to tutor for reading, literacy, and writing. I am in my fourth year of my undergraduate degree, as I am studying to become a special education teacher. Thus far in my clinical experiences, I have tutored small-group literacy for first graders and small-group math for fourth-graders. Additionally, I have taught whole-class fourth-grade social studies. I also serve as a peer tutor for American history at my university. I have greatly enjoyed watching my students, whether first graders or college students, make strides in their knowledge and understanding of concepts as I have tutored them. One of the things I love most about tutoring is assisting students in their educational journey, to the point where they are more confident in their mastery and use of the material in question. My reading lessons center primarily around phonics instruction, following the Science of Reading. This is the most recent research-based method for reading instruction, and I have found that many students respond well to it. Phonics focuses on breaking words apart, sounding them out, and then blending the sounds together. For K-3rd graders, this is what most of my reading instruction will focus on. For 4th grade and up, my lessons will focus on helping students develop fluency in their reading, as well as a wider vocabulary, so that students can improve in their comprehension abilities.
For American history, I like to find ways to make history come alive for students. This will heavily influence my instruction, as students will learn about historical events through literature, living history presentations, and other activities.
For Spanish, I will focus on helping students develop knowledge of vocabulary and basic conjugations. My goal is to help them be conversational as soon as possible, and so much of my instructional time involves conversation in Spanish.
