About Taylan
I am a physicist and engineer with over 14 years of experience teaching at the university level and mentoring students in hands-on STEM projects. I specialize in physics, electromagnetics, power electronics, and materials for energy applications. I also co-founded a startup focused on magnetic core technologies and hold patents in that field. My teaching approach combines strong theoretical foundations with real-world examples—from transformer design and renewable energy systems to simulations of wireless power transfer. I enjoy helping students of all ages—from middle school to graduate level—grasp difficult concepts, build confidence, and succeed in both coursework and applied projects. I currently reside in New Jersey and am open to both remote and in-person sessions.

As a tutor, I believe in building a strong conceptual foundation while connecting the subject matter to real-world applications—especially important in STEM fields like physics, engineering, and mathematics. I adapt my teaching methods to the student’s learning style, whether they are visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners. Teaching Method & Techniques Diagnostic Approach: I begin by assessing the student’s current understanding through guided questions or informal assessments. This helps identify gaps and misconceptions early. Conceptual Clarity First: I focus on intuitive explanations before jumping into formulas. For example, in electromagnetism, I might use analogies or hands-on visualizations before introducing Maxwell's equations. Active Learning: I encourage students to solve problems interactively rather than passively listening. I often use the Socratic method to prompt deeper thinking. Real-World Integration: For engineering students, I incorporate real case studies—like transformer design problems, simulation of wireless charging systems, or core material properties in power electronics—to show how theory translates into practice. Feedback Loop: I give immediate, constructive feedback and use spaced repetition to reinforce learning. Typical Lesson Plan Structure (60 minutes) Warm-Up / Recap (5–10 mins): Review of previous material or clarification of any lingering questions. Concept Focus (15–20 mins): Introduction of the new concept with clear explanation and real-world context. Problem Solving (20–25 mins): Guided practice with increasing levels of difficulty; includes collaborative thinking and step-by-step problem decomposition. Wrap-Up & Preview (5–10 mins): Summary of key takeaways, correction of misconceptions, and a brief look ahead. For longer sessions (e.g., 90 minutes), I include a short break and mini-project-based learning when appropriate. What Sets Me Apart Academic Depth + Industry Application: I combine 14 years of university-level teaching in energy systems and physics with hands-on R&D experience in a startup I co-founded. Mentorship Beyond Tutoring: I often advise students on research projects, technical competitions, or career planning—particularly those interested in graduate school, engineering design, or scientific innovation. Customized Resources: I create or adapt simulations, visual aids, and design templates tailored to each student's level and goals. Who Are My Lessons For? University Students: Particularly in physics, electrical/electronics engineering, materials science, and renewable energy. High School Students: Preparing for AP Physics, IB, SAT Subject Tests, or Olympiads. Graduate School Candidates: GRE Physics prep, engineering project mentorship, or thesis guidance. Professionals & Adult Learners: Those transitioning into engineering fields, preparing for certification exams, or needing consulting on technical projects (e.g., power electronics design, magnetic material selection, etc.).

More than 10 miles away, extra $5 per mile will be charged. Course materials will not be charged. Library meeting would be a good option for students residents far away from Cliffside Park. I strongly suggest online course for Students from NY, because extra charges may be applied once they'd like to be in-person meeting.
