About Sebastian
I studied Philosophy at university and later did postgraduate study in International Relations.
Outside of work, I spend a lot of time reading, watching films, listening to music and following international affairs. I’m also into sport, particularly football and climbing, and I travel fairly often when I can.
I’ve done a mixture of tutoring, coaching and charity work over the years, which I’ve always enjoyed alongside my academic interests.

I’m quite conversational in how I tutor. Especially with Philosophy and International Relations, I think it helps to properly talk an idea through first rather than immediately trying to force it into an essay structure. Usually once someone really understands what an argument is saying, the writing becomes much easier.
Essay writing is probably the area I’m strongest in. I’m happy looking over drafts, helping with structure and argument, or just talking through a question before anything has been written. I’ve always been quite interested in the difference between knowing the material and actually making a strong argument with it.
I tutored part-time for around three years in total, starting with weekend tutoring and then doing much more during my gap year, mainly with students up to GCSE level. I later studied Philosophy at university and also did postgraduate study in International Relations. More recently I’ve worked one-to-one with young people as a behavioural health coach, which has also made me quite used to adapting to different personalities and ways of learning.
Lessons are usually 50 minutes. I find that’s long enough to get properly into something without attention starting to drop off towards the end.
I teach GCSE, A-level and undergraduate students in Philosophy, International Relations and Geopolitics, with a particular focus on critical thinking and essay writing.
