About Tabitha
I am a 25 year old LGBTQIA+ tutor, originally from London but living mostly in Leeds. My passion for teaching does not only come from my love of reading and writing, but of helping people grow and develop in themselves. I hope to build both a professional and friendly bond with my students, and particularly welcome people from minority backgrounds who may feel anxious or unheard in their everyday lives. I have dealt with social anxiety since school, so am happy to cater my lessons to suit people who may feel a little nervous meeting new people.
My undergraduate dissertation looked at representations of Drag and gender in camp cinema. After this, I completed a second dissertation on Islamic feminist blogs and a third dissertation looking at disabled comedians. My current PhD examines the impact of performance spaces which are inclusive of disabled people in terms of empowerment, wellbeing, and socialising.

My approach to tutoring varies depending on the students' specific needs. Normally our first lesson will consist of us getting to know each other and working on a plan for the term by setting out some personal goals and highlighting areas you would like particular help in. I will also encourage you to tell me how you like to learn and what methods you find helpful/unhelpful. This will help me structure the lesson according to your personal needs.
The lesson will normally be between 1-2hours, but this can be flexible. I have the most experience helping A Level and University students, but would also be happy helping GCSE students or below. Due to my experience in writing essays, I will be happy to proof read any work and help people plan and write essays from various subjects, not just English Literature.
Qualifications:
- 4x As at A Level in English Literature, English Language, Media and Sociology
- 1st class honours undergraduate degree in Film and Literature from Warwick University
- 1st class Masters in Sociology and Media from the University of Leeds
- 1st class Masters in Social Research from the University of Leeds
- Recently passed my first year as a PhD student at the University of Leeds

If you require me to mark a full essay I may need to charge for extra time. This will be a standard rate of £1 if the essay is over 1500 words. If you are unsure about this, we can discuss options.
