About Abena
I am a PhD student with a passion for mentoring and tutoring. I have previous experience working in biotech which has allowed me to apply knowledge gained from academia to real-life projects to achieve project goals. Growing up, I didn't fully identify my learning style till I started my undergraduate studies where I began to change my revision and studying style in order to excel. Thus, I have a strong interest in helping students identify and explore different learning styles that better suit them. I believe every student has the capacity to excel academically, they just need to identify their learning style and gaps in their understanding of the topics they are studying and bridge those gaps.

Personal approach to tutoring involves adapting teaching to different learning styles and students' need. My aim is to help students identify any gaps in learning or understanding of particular subjects and assist them to bridge those gaps. I believe developing a better understanding of subjects rather than recalling facts is crucial to excelling in academia. I aim to make my lessons interactive with a focus on specific areas the student struggles with. Problem-solving will also be incorporated in my teaching style as I believe its a useful skill for any career post-academia.
I obtained a First class and a Distinction in my undergraduate and postgraduate courses, consecutively. I can tutor in GCSE Biology, Chemistry and undergraduate bioscience modules such as Immunology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Cancer Sciences and Molecular Biology.
Previous experience as a tutor includes helping younger students (Y7/Y8) improve literacy and numeracy skills.
