About James
I developed a passion for Biology when I was 16, when I first learned the basics of the complex human immune system in an A-level class. Since then I have perused this passion by first undertaking a degree in Biotechnology at the University of Nottingham and then a PhD in paediatric brain cancer research.
One of the skills I have acquired from my PhD is how to effectively mentor and teach new PhD students and undergraduates difficult scientific concepts and techniques, something which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I now want use this skill to do what I love: talking about and teaching the fascinating world of Biology.
I am an upbeat person, who always has a smile on their face :)

I believe that anyone can easily understand complex biological concepts and therefore attain the highest exam grades possible, if they are taught correctly. I aim to teach students such concepts by breaking them down into easy to digest chunks and then putting them back together, for a more in depth and complete understanding. I also believe in working very closely with the specification for GCSE and A-level courses in order to ensure that what I teach will earn students maximum marks in exams.
I have had extensive experience teaching new PhD students and undergraduates difficult concepts and techniques. I have also attained the 'Pillars of Teaching' qualification offered by my University. I have a real love for my subject and I can easily adapt to the individual needs of students.
Since I am new to tutoring I will be offering discounted rates and a free 60 minute consultation session to establish what students want to get out of the lessons.
