About Channing

I am now a PhD student in ANU, majoring in art and literature. I come from China and have learned Chinese traditional opera for several years and given numerous performances (mainly Peking opera and Yue opera) in theatres and schools. I used to open a selective course "Appreciation of Chinese Traditional Opera" for college students in China to teach them how to appreciate and sing. The course was highly welcomed with over 1,000 students attending in total.

About the lesson

This course is provided for people who are really interested in Chinese traditional opera, which is the essence of Chinese culture. To learn Chinese traditional opera requires patience and high respect for the art. The singing and acting are extraordinarily beautiful and also not easy to be learned. It is suggested that students should learn some Chinese before taking this course or have a good sense of music. Lessons will include the singing skill, the stylized movement, the makeup, and the appreciation of Peking opera/Yue opera.

Channing is the best Chinese teacher I have ever met and the perfect teacher one ever dreams to have. As a former college teacher with rich experience in Chinese and English teaching, she is always patient and well prepared for every session. She makes the Chinese learning experience so fun with her profound knowledge in Chinese culture. You know what? She is also a celebrity performer of traditional Chinese opera in China! She is indeed amazing, and you won’t regret to have her help to learn Chinese!
