About Ruby
I truly love Biology, and have been passionate about it from a young age. I hold a PhD in Biomedical Engineering with a specialism in Neuroscience and have taught at GCSE, A-level, undergraduate, and Master’s level. This broad teaching experience allows me not only to help students fully understand the syllabus, but also to share valuable insight into future pathways and careers in science.
I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, ensuring students know how to apply their knowledge clearly and effectively under exam conditions. I also understand what it feels like to be a student wondering whether a question is “silly”. I promise there are no silly questions here. I will explain concepts patiently and in different ways until you feel confident enough to teach them back to me.
I am calm, professional, and experienced, having worked across a range of scientific fields and with many students from different backgrounds. Several of my students have exceeded their target grades and gone on to pursue degrees in Biochemistry, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Medicine, and related scientific disciplines.

I use an interactive, adaptive approach, combining mentoring with techniques that suit each student’s learning style. My lessons typically last 60 minutes and incorporate a mix of methods, including PowerPoint presentations, exam papers, whiteboard teaching, mini videos, and unique memory techniques. I focus on building strong exam technique, helping students approach assessments confidently and achieve their best results. Honestly, trust a neuroscientist to share the best hacks and tricks for remembering even the hardest topics in biology! :)

I can honestly say that Ruby made a huge difference for me. I went from a Grade 4 to a Grade 7, which I never thought I’d achieve. She explained difficult topics clearly and made sure I actually understood everything, not just memorise it.
She also really helped with exam technique, especially the longer 6-mark questions, which boosted my confidence a lot. I genuinely believe I could have achieved a Grade 8 if it wasn’t for a few of my own mistakes in the exam. The teaching definitely prepared me well enough.
