About Ty

I'm Ty McKinney, PhD ("the NeuroGuy"). I bring my doctorate from the University of Utah in psychology and neuroscience — EEG, sleep, and cognition — with peer-reviewed publications, and my experience as a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary to my tutoring. I'm also Co-Founder & CEO of 8 Bit Cortex, an impact-measurement consultancy in Calgary that translates research into real-world impact.

My approach: concepts first, in plain language, then the details — patient, structured, and built around your course or goals. First lesson free: we'll map out what you need and how we'll get there.

About the lesson

I bring over 8 years of teaching experience to my tutoring on the following topics:

- Psychology: Support for intro, cognitive, and biological psychology — understanding concepts, connecting theory to evidence, and preparing for exams and assignments with confidence.

- Neuroscience: Brain and behavior from neurons to systems, including EEG and the neuroscience of sleep — made concrete and visual, not just memorized.

- Statistics: Statistics for psychology and social-science students. Understanding over memorization: what each test does, how to choose it, and how to interpret and report your results.

- Psychological Assessment: Psychometrics, reliability and validity, test theory, and how assessment actually works in clinical and neuropsychological practice.
- Research Methods: Study design, ethics, proposals, and analysis — including coaching for honors and graduate research projects and theses.
