About James
I'm a university teacher and tutor at the University of Warwick and Coventry University. I received my doctorate from Warwick in 2025. I have tutored GCSE and A Level students, and in higher education I have taught students from undergraduate up to PhD level. I have also been published in a number of literary journals – both for fiction and non-fiction.

I try to be adaptable to you and your particular needs and learning styles. I'm always aiming to both think about the marking criteria for the exam board in question, but also thinking about how these questions apply to life more broadly. Often these subjects ask big questions and I see part of my job as helping to think through these questions in a lively, authentic way, with good humour.
A lesson will typically last an hour. Typically, these lessons are towards GCSE and A Level students, but I am also happy to think about tutoring more broadly, for those who simply want to engage with literature, writing, and philosophy.
In terms of tutoring experience, I have tutored a number of A Level and GCSE students over the years. Additionally, at the University of Warwick, I have taught both undergraduates and masters students in creative writing. At Coventry University, I have tutored hundreds of students over eight years from undergraduate to PhD level in their academic writing, from a wide range of subjects from History to Nursing to Biochemistry – both in one-to-ones and in workshops. I also taught creative writing sessions to A Level students as part of the Coventry City of Culture and for the Warwick University Law school for disadvantaged students.
