About Andreea

Hi there! My name is Andreea and I am currently working towards my PhD in Mathematical Finance at Warwick Uni. Before that, I achieved my MSc in Mathematical Finance (with Distinction) and BSc in Mathematics (with First Class Honours) both from Warwick Uni. I went to high school in my home country, Romania, where my main focus was preparing for national maths olympiads and contests, having won several medals as well. Outside of work, my passions are music (vocal and piano), outdoor activities (such as hiking or scuba), travelling and reading.

About the lesson

I have experience in teaching both small groups and large classes for different levels, as detailed below. I started my employment as a Senior Graduate Teaching Assistant for Warwick Uni in January 2024. As a GTA, my responsibilities include delivering seminars and problem classes, marking assignments or designing problem sheets for the undergraduate or postgraduate modules in the Statistics Department. So far, I have taught the 3rd year measure theoretic probability course ST318 Probability Theory twice (Term 2, 23/24 and 24/25), as well as the MSc course ST908 Stochastic Calculus for Finance (Term 1, 24/25). On top of that, I worked with numerous students in a private tutoring setting, for either university level courses (e.g., revision or exam preparation) or pre-university level (e.g., for the Baccalaureate exam or for a generally better understanding of the school syllabus). I am a firm believer that mathematics should be first taught intuitively and, only after, rigorously. Moreover, I am deeply passionate about exposing the elegance, beauty and utility of maths. Having been not long ago in the classroom myself, I am empathetic and do my best to interact with the students as I would have liked to interact with a tutor. I am energetic, friendly, engaged and I love working with people. Since I am genuinely motivated by students' success, I provide continuous support with materials, questions and feedback. My areas of expertise are: 1. University level: Real Analysis, Measure Theory, Probability Theory, Stochastic Calculus, Brownian Motion, any topics related to Mathematical Finance (e.g., applications of Stochastic Calculus to financial models, Stochastic Optimal Control, BSDEs etc.); 2. Pre-university level: anything (e.g., precalculus, calculus, differential equations, probability, linear algebra, group theory, number theory etc.). I believe that the optimal lesson length is 1.5h - 2h, although I am flexible in my approach to best suit students' needs.
